In the landman industry, ongoing education is important and valuable. As practices change, certification requirements fluctuate, and new technologies are developed, staying abreast of current topics is a must. One such way to stay informed is by attending conferences and annual meetings. While there are a number of events throughout the year and all over the country, there are a few that stand out for their authority and popularity.
NAPE Expo
The NAPE Expo is known as the “world’s largest prospect & property expo.” It is essentially a huge marketplace for buying, selling, and trading producing properties and oil and gas prospects. With five shows approaching in the coming months, there are convenient times and locations for everyone. The five annual expos are known as NAPE Winter, NAPE International, NAPE East, NAPE South, and NAPE Rockies. Each of these events holds both an expo and business conference.
Created in 1993 by the AAPL, the first NAPE Expo event had more than 80 booths and 800 attendees. Over time, the event grew in popularity and success. The Winter NAPE is notably the largest event of the year and has grown to more than 1,600 booths and around 16,000 attendees. The Summer NAPE – held in August – now hosts around 600 booths and more than 6,000 attendees.
OTC Conference
The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is held in Houston, Texas each year. It is one of the top events in the industry and brings together experts in the fields of drilling, production, exploration, and environmental protection. With more than 13 sponsor organizations and societies, the event is able to bring together some of the top resources and equipment for education, display, and purchase.
Each year, there are around 90,000 professionals in attendance. These professionals come from more than 120 countries and make up the largest collection of industry professionals in the world. Attendees can mingle and network, browse booths, attend seminars, and experience new, groundbreaking technology for the first time.
AAPL Annual Meeting
As the authoritative organization of the industry, it’s impossible to leave the annual AAPL meeting off the list. This year marked the 61st annual meeting and was held in Nashville, TN at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center. These meetings provide educational opportunities for AAPL members and allow the more than 21,000 members and 44 local organizations the chance to network and mingle.
As a professional landman, it’s important to stay educated and informed on what’s happening in the industry. The best way to do this is by attending the suggested conferences. Take a look at the calendar and save the dates!
